The associate in science degree and certificate options in machining and manufacturing
technology at Allan Hancock College will prepare you for a well-paying career in advanced
The program is open to everyone from novices who want to survey or sample manufacturing
classes to manufacturing workers who wish to improve the skills they use at work.
In addition to machining classes on all levels, there are classes in operational
excellence or Lean Manufacturing, blueprint reading, shop math and measurement and
3D modeling using SolidWorks. In addition to the face-to-face classes on the Santa
Maria campus, the program offers online courses in Industrial Safety, Maintenance
Awareness and Mastercam.
As a graduate of the machine technology program, students will have mastered the techniques
used in advanced manufacturing, machining and programming. In just two years students
will obtain the skills necessary to begin a career in the high-tech world of advanced

Science Instructor, PVHS
One of the obstacles that I had to overcome was breaking the language barrier. Another obstacle I faced was financial hardship. As I completed my classes at AHC, I had to work in many part-time jobs such as a math/science tutor for the college tutoring center, night shift clerk for a local grocery store and vegetable cooling. Also, the MESA program and the STEM Center, not only supported me academically through resources such as access to books and computers, but also through working with students with interest in mathematics, science and engineering.
